Why Writing Down Your Thoughts Can Help You Fall Asleep Quicker

February 18, 2021 By Jessica Garcia

At the base of a good mood, a good day, and a healthy wellbeing is a good night of sleep. Even though folks tend to get caught up in the fast pace of America, always hustling, working, and staying busy, it’s important to take your sleep seriously. Unfortunately, falling asleep is not an easy task for everyone.

Here are five TikTok sleep hacks that might help out with that.

Put your phone away.

Of course this is easier said than done, but it’s worth giving a try. Something that might help ease your way into this is placing your phone as far away from your bed as possible, that way you’re too cozy and comfortable to want to get up and go get your phone.

Reduce blue light exposure.

Some people actually fall asleep more easily by watching television or videos on their phone. If you’re one of those people, check out the settings on your devices to see if you’re able to adjust the light exposure. The warmer the lighting is on the screen, the quicker you’ll be able to fall asleep.

Write down your thoughts.

There’s nothing worse than being physically exhausted, but not being able to fall asleep because you have all these thoughts racing through your head. This is why you hear so much about the benefits of journaling. Instead of letting your thoughts take over, write it all down. Think of it as word vomit. But instead of venting to a person and letting it all out of your system, you’ll be venting to your journal.

Breathe.

This might seem like an easy one, but it’s easy for a simple task like breathing to be taken for granted since it’s something you do every day. Slowing down your breathing and being mindful of it can help your body relax, which will prepare you to fall asleep more easily.

Create a bedtime routine.

What makes all of these sleep hacks more effective is if you turn them into a nightly routine. Everyone is different, so some sleep hacks might work better for you than they do for someone else. What matters is that once you find out what works for you, stick to it. After a week or two of following the same routine, your body will start to get used to it, making it easier each day to fall asleep and catch those Z’s.
